当地相传，王母娘娘的小猪偷跑下凡，玉帝派老虎追赶，小猪陷入泥塘，老虎也陷了进去；观音派三只老虎在海边守护，事后三虎化为三座山丘，即大虎、二虎、三虎，社区由此得名。[1]
荣誉[edit]
2019年9月，大虎社区列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单；2023年11月，列入广东「百千万工程」首批典型县镇村；2024年1月，经确认为广东省2023年度民主法治示范村（社区）。[1]
