下咀村讴塘一带种植桂味荔枝，荔枝约在7月1日前后成熟，当地的荔枝合作社因此取名「七一红」。[1]
经济[edit]
1970年前后，一位生产队队长从广州增城引入两株荔枝苗，种在下咀村。这种荔枝果肉厚实、核小味甜，此后讴塘一带逐步发展为规模种植。[1]
村民组建合作社，由合作社统一管理技术、品牌与销售渠道，改变了过去农户分散经营的局面。[1]
