南江口镇位于郁南县东北部，地处西江中游南岸，南江河在此汇入西江，镇名即由河口的位置而来。镇内多山，西江与南江沿岸有平地，当地有「七山一水二分田」的说法。南广铁路贯穿镇区并设南江口站，西江航运可下达肇庆、广州，上达梧州。1987年建镇，为广东省省级中心镇。[1][3]

历史沿革[edit]

晋代末年，此地属晋化县，一度作为县署驻地。清代隶属罗定州西宁县太平都，名为仙平甲。民国二年（1913年）改为仙平乡，归郁南县第二区管辖。[4]

新中国成立后，此地先称平罗乡，后于1957年并入南渡乡，合称南江口乡。1961年成立南江口人民公社，1983年设南江口区，1987年建镇。[4]

2022年1月，南江口镇获评「2021年度广东省卫生城镇」称号。[2]

地理环境[edit]

全镇面积，博雅地名网作200.6平方千米，百度百科作200.7平方千米；镇域与德庆县城隔江相望。[2][1]

南江河纵贯全境。林业资源有松脂、肉桂、笋竹，矿产有磷矿石和石英石。气候属亚热带季风湿润气候区（博雅地名网），百度百科则称南亚热带季风气候。[3][1]

人口民族[edit]

第七次全国人口普查结果显示，南江口镇人口为2.53万人，2021年6月公布。[2] 百度百科载2017年人口为28700人，镇政府2024年的一篇报道称约4.5万人，各处所载不一。[1][5]

经济[edit]

顺流而下，南江口港的航线可直达肇庆、广州，以及江门、珠海、香港；逆流而上可至柳州、南宁、梧州。[3]

南广铁路贯穿镇区，并设有南江口站。[5]

博雅地名网所列特产包括松脂、桂皮、笋竹、黄榄、蜂蜜、木茨、蚕桑，以及南江降柚、龙窝香荔。[3]

名胜古迹[edit]

南江口陶瓷窑群分布在西江与南江沿岸的山岗上，窑址年代为唐宋。木格村的水瓜口尚留有10余座唐代马蹄形馒头窑，南瑶村龟嘴山与南渡村虾捞山一带见有宋代龙窑遗迹，其中一座长约30米。[7]

西坑村棺材岭山有陈承亲墓。该墓1992年11月被发现，随后作了勘察和挖掘，是砖室墓，墓室内高1.9米，长6.15米，宽1.84米，神龛共13个。[6]
