宋桂社区位于宋桂镇中心区，地名因居委会设在宋桂街而来。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1961年宋桂人民公社设立时，此地定名为宋桂社区，仍归郁南县管辖。1983年划入宋桂区公所，1987年划入宋桂镇人民政府。[2]

居民委员会成立于1987年，2001年改称社区居民委员会，2005年首次选出社区居委会成员。[2]1992年圩镇扩容后，居民和村民陆续到镇上购地建房，江、叶、谢、李等姓迁入圩镇定居。[2]

2019年9月，宋桂社区列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。[1]
