宋桂镇位于广东省云浮市郁南县东南部，距县城74公里，北面接东坝镇，西面与连滩镇相邻。南江河由西向东流经镇境，宋桂河在境内自南向北汇入南江河。[1][2][3]

无核黄皮、荔枝、佛手、蚕桑等是镇内的主要特产，工业以制线、电机为主。[3]

历史沿革[edit]

相传明末有一位名叫宋桂的人在此摆卖小食，清光绪年间此地建圩，即以宋桂为名。[2]清代此地称宁坡堡，民国时期称宁坡乡，隶属云浮县第四区。[1][2]

1958年10月，此地与东坝合并，组成惊天人民公社。1960年4月，此地改属罗定县；1961年罗定与郁南分治后，此地回到郁南。同年，它从东坝分立出来，改名宋桂人民公社。[2]

1983年，此地设为宋桂区；1987年，区改为镇。[2][4]

2021年度广东省卫生城镇的称号，于2022年1月授予宋桂镇。[2]

地理环境[edit]

两处资料对全镇面积的记载不同：博雅地名网作约85.4平方千米，百度百科作81.8平方千米，两者均未注明年份。[1][2]

南江河由西向东流经镇境，宋桂河自南向北注入南江河，水力资源丰富。[3]镇内有宋桂滩电站。[3]

第七次全国人口普查的结果是全镇1.44万人。[2]百度百科载2017年总人口为25335人，其信息框内则作25158人。[1]居民以汉族为主体，并有九个少数民族。[1]

经济[edit]

主要农产品有水果、松脂、马铃薯、花生、木薯和稻谷。[3]优质特产包括大肉姜、蚕桑、无核黄皮、优质青梅、荔枝、麻竹、龙眼和佛手。[3]

工业以制线、电机、风机、电线和开关为主，企业有南江茧丝制造厂，另有郁南县电机厂和宋桂祥发制线厂。[3]

县道大镇线和大南线贯通全境，镇域接324国道、省道德朱线和321国道，并与德庆西江大桥相接。[3]
