大方镇位于广东省云浮市郁南县中部，是一个山区镇，也属革命老区镇。全镇总面积64.7平方千米，第七次全国人口普查时常住人口为7470人。[1][2]

省道279线穿过镇境，往南可接324国道，往北可接321国道，县道大历线在境内约3.5千米。镇区与郁南县城相隔50千米，与云浮市区相隔71千米，离广梧高速连滩出入口35千米。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

明清两代，这里属常静都镇力上甲。民国时先称大宁乡，隶属第十区；后与大全、石濂、绥靖三乡合并，改称大濂乡。新中国成立初设为大方行政村，隶第五区，1953年改为大方乡。1958年划入「七一」人民公社，1961年分出，另设大方人民公社。1983年设大方区，1987年改称大方乡，1993年设大方镇。[2]

镇名的来历与一处旧地名有关：辖区里原有一个大枫寨，寨名后来换成了大方村；镇政府设在这个村，镇也随之得名。[2]

地理环境[edit]

大方镇属亚热带季风气候，境内山地较多。据博雅地名网《大方镇概况》，镇内有石英矿、白坭矿和坦坭矿等矿产，矿点多位于大塘、太平、三和三村所在的一带。[1][3]
