湴塘村位于太平镇，村名取自四面环山、中间低洼如池塘的地形。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1949年前，此地为东山乡的一个农会。1949年后归第三区，名东山乡，1955年改称东南乡，属上沙区。[2] 1958年归共成公社，称湴塘生产大队；1961年一度隶属悦塘公社，1963年回属上沙人民公社。[2] 1983年设湴塘乡，1986年设太平镇湴塘管理区；1999年改为村民委员会。[2]
