州背社区位于新城镇中心区，是该镇辖下的社区之一。州背之名取自旧时新州府城的背面，因地势处于其后而来。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
1949年划入新兴县第一区附城镇，叫州背村。1951年改隶城关镇，村级单位为州背乡；1958年并入红旗公社，成为州背大队。1964年转由环城公社管理。1994年改归新城镇，设州背管理区；2001年又改建为州背社区居民委员会，一直延续至今。[1]
2019年9月，该社区进入2018年度「广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。[1]
