老南湖村位于普宁市区东南约9.8千米处。明万历四十四年（1616年），许氏始祖从福建莆田来此开村，村南的小湖使村庄取名南湖；后来在附近另建新村，为便于区别，此村遂称老南湖。[1][2]

1999年1月，经普宁市人民政府文件改称老南湖村委会。[2]

经济与侨乡[edit]

村中以稻谷、甘薯和蔬菜为主，服装加工业较为发达。村子属重点侨乡。[1]
