历史沿革[edit]
明代，林氏一支从福建莆田县迁来。当时此处是个小集市，村落居于集市之中，故名市上。[1]
解放前村子属普宁县和衷乡，新中国成立后改称竹浦乡。1958年成为竹浦大队，1984年划入南溪区，仍称竹浦乡；1987年归南溪镇，改为竹浦村委会；1990年一度为竹浦管理区，1999年方定名市上村委会。[1]
革命历史[edit]
大革命时期，多数村民参加革命。村子属革命老区。[1]
荣誉[edit]
2024年3月，村子被命名为「2023年广东省卫生村」。[1]
