流沙镇拆分出流沙南街道以后，这里新设了一个居委会。取名“流新”，意思是流沙新设立的居委会。该居委会2001年4月成立，2002年改为社区居民委员会，名字一直保留至今。[1]

人口与生活[edit]

社区辖区住户约3250户，居民约1.3万人，设3个居民小组。辖区内有华侨新村、芳草园新村和后坛苑新村等居民住宅区，有流沙副食品专业市场和渔肉菜市场，商贸活跃。[1]
