山头村是广东省揭阳市惠来县溪西镇下辖的行政村，位于镇区南部，距镇区约1.8千米，省道内隆公路穿村而过，南海公路的起点也在村中。村名来自村中一座山丘。[1][2]

地理与人口[edit]

全村下辖山头、山岗、埔美三处自然村，村委会驻山头村。全村人口5962人（未注年份），土地5.4平方千米，水田1362亩与旱园1088亩合计耕地2450亩；另有沙地300亩。作物以水稻、甘薯、淮山为主。[1]

地名与历史沿革[edit]

南宋末年，宋帝路过村中山丘歇息，闻鸡报晓，随即起程避开追兵。后人在此立亭纪念，命名闻鸡亭。[1]

明代末年，唐氏由山岗分居到此，当时已有刘氏定居。因周围都是沙滩，居处为一山丘，与闻鸡亭山遥遥相对，故名山头。[1][2]

1949年后村曾称乡，办过农业社；1958年至1983年为大队，1983年至1986年为乡政府，1987年至1999年为管理区，1999年改为村委会。[2]

教育、经济与荣誉[edit]

村内有山头小学和山岗小学两所，教职工25人，在校学生774人。2001年，省、市对学校改薄工作检查验收合格。[1]

清代村中已办有砖瓦厂。近年村民以淮山、甘薯为主要经济作物，产品销往福建、广州、深圳和普宁等地，淮山多送往普宁加工为中药材。[1]

1998年，镇党委把先进基层党组织的称号授予村党支部；2000年，县委也评定该党支部为先进基层党组织；2001年，村获评惠来县文明单位。[1]
