桃美村在惠来县城南面偏东约11.2公里，村落呈长方形分布，以农业为主，部分村民兼营竹筏浅海捕捞。[1]
地名由来[edit]
村前土壤呈黑色，最初称乌涂尾。1919年，外出经商的村民增多，嫌村名土俗不美，有方姓乡贤提议改称桃美。因“涂”与“桃”在潮汕话中读音相近，全村认可，沿用至今。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
明初，程氏到此创村，随后许、方、颜等姓陆续迁入。1949年至1958年曾办初级社、高级社。1958年至1983年公社化期间设为大队；1983年设桃美乡政府，其后1987年为桃美管理区，1999年才称桃美村委会。[1]
