赤沃村位于惠来县东南部沿海，背山面海，属丘陵地带。它是前詹镇管辖下的一个行政村，以农业为主，兼营少量渔业。[1]

村南一片海湾的沙滩呈赤色，故称「赤沃」。[1]

元大德年间（1297～1307年），方氏迁来定居，陈、林等姓随后迁入。此地后来称赤沃乡，1958年至1983年间为赤沃大队，1983年至1986年设乡政府，1987年改为赤沃管理区，1999年改为赤沃村委会。[1]
