秀水里村属前詹镇辖下，离惠城约15公里，距镇政府约8公里，是一个纯农业村，农业以水稻、甘薯和花生为主。[1]

村前四水汇聚，村名原为「大水堀」。清咸丰年间（1851～1861年）改用雅名「秀水里」，取山清水秀之意。[1]

清乾隆八年（1743年），邓氏迁来此地创基，后方、高、林、徐等姓陆续迁入。新中国成立后一度称秀水里乡；1958至1983年间设为大队，1983至1986年改设乡政府，1987年为管理区，1999年成为村委会。[1]

解放前有30多人参加革命，解放后该村被列为老区村庄。[1]

清末武举人方桂东（1857～1907年）原籍秀水里，民国时期的方书彪也出身此村。[1]
