古杭村位于前詹镇境内的深山之中，是一个纯农业的革命老区村庄。村民的主要收入依靠农林生产。[1]
村址原在鸡冠山岭前，三面环山，一面临坑。因村分上下两处，原称古坑上村、下村，后简称「古杭」。[1]
明末（1624～1644年），蔡氏来此立基，后陈、林、蓝等姓陆续迁入聚居。1953年划归华湖公社；1957年因建古杭水库，村民迁往离村东南约1.5公里处的白石埔，此后归前詹公社管辖。1983年称古杭村，1987年设古杭管理区，1999年改为古杭村委会。[1]
