创村之初，村子居于村北山岭的尾端，当时称「山尾乡」，新中国成立后改用雅称「仙美」。[1]
约600年前，潮安施氏来此创村。1949年属杭美乡，称仙美村；1958年设仙美大队，1983年设仙美乡政府，1987年改为仙美管理区，1999年成立仙美村委会。[1]
