铭西村位于前詹镇北面，离镇址约3公里，是一个纯农的村庄，村民的经济来源主要靠种植。[1][2]
村旁原有一湖，名为铭湖，村庄位于湖的西边，故称「铭西」。[1][2]
村北的铭湖岩相传建于南宋咸淳元年（1265年），岩洞奇特，是惠来八景之一。[1]
宋嘉定年间（1205～1224年），黄氏从周田迁来定居。1949年前此地属杭美乡公所，1958年归周田区，1961年3月转入前詹人民公社时称铭湖大队；1976年才有铭西大队之名，1983年改设乡政府，1987年设铭西管理区，1999年成为铭西村委会。[2]
2019年9月，铭西村被列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。[2]
