后寮村位于前詹镇东北部丘陵地带，离镇址约4公里，是一个纯农的小村庄，耕地以水田和旱园为主。[1]

村子原称「厚饶」，因地方富饶、物产丰富而得名。因它是镇区以北最远的村落，又取方位之意，并与潮汕音相近，1952年改名「后寮」。[1][2]

此地先有郑、黄、刘、王等姓居住，后来他姓迁离，如今定居的是许、陈、林三姓。[1]

1949年属靖海区，土改后属前詹乡，1952年称村，属周田区。1958年属红旗公社，1961年前詹公社设立后改称铭湖大队；1974年拆分后成立后寮大队，1983年设后寮乡政府，1986年改设后寮管理区，1999年改为后寮村委会。[2][1]

2019年9月，后寮村被列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。[1]
