港寮村位于前詹镇东部海滨，是一个半渔农的村庄。县级公路庵泉线贯穿全村，东距汕头经济特区约60公里，西距县城约25公里。[1]

村庄原称「港内」，1951年以后由邻近村落合并，改名「港寮」。[1]

过去村民出海打鱼、兼种田地，因海岸缺少港口，加之近海渔获逐年减少，渔业难以扩大，许多渔民改做海水养殖或外出打工。村内海岸线长，沙滩洁净，适宜发展盐业和旅游业。[1]

元顺帝年间（1333～1339年），郑氏迁来创村，后有林姓迁入聚居。1958年改称港寮大队，1983年设港寮乡政府，1987年改为港寮管理区，1999年改为港寮村委会。2019年9月，港寮村被列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。[1]
