后王村是一个半丘陵、半渔农的村庄，海岸线长3.2公里。村名由旧名“厚衡”演变而来。[1]

地名与历史[edit]

建村之初，村后是一道宽阔的山陵，东西横贯约二公里，因此称厚衡。村中原有王、陈、黄三姓，后来他姓迁走，只留下王姓。厚与后、衡与王的潮音相近，名称几经演变，成为现在的后王。[1]

元末已有村落，元至正十一年（1351年）王姓一支迁来聚居。1949年至1956年12月间实行土地改革，此地设乡；1956年后并入他乡，1958年成为生产大队。1983年后成为乡政府驻地，1986年转为管理区，1999年才设村委会。[1]

地理与人口[edit]

行政区域面积3平方千米，海岸线长3.2公里，耕地54.66公顷。博雅地名网记载，总户籍人口2875人，统计年份未注。从业人员有940人，外出的为512人。[1]

村子的三通已基本实现，集体经济比较落后。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2021年12月，广东省爱卫会评定后王村为「2021年广东省卫生村」。2019年9月，后王村被收入「2018年广东省“民主法治示范村（社区）”创建单位」名单。[1]
