前吴村是靖海一座有六百多年历史的古村，村落包括宫前两个自然村，也是惠来县的侨乡之一。村名因村前的小湖而来，“吴”与“湖”谐音。[1][2]

地名与历史[edit]

村前有一个小湖，“吴”与“湖”读音相近，村名由此定为前吴。[1]

明洪武初年，林姓一支迁居到此建村。明、清两朝，村里先后出过进士、举人和武魁共二十九人。明正德三年（1508年），前吴的氏族获赐皇封曲尺祠一座，祠址在惠城北门。[1][2]

1949年解放前夕，此地设乡；1983年设前吴乡人民政府；1986年撤乡，设管理委员会；1999年改设村民委员会。[2]

人口与经济[edit]

村中以农业为主，番薯亩产普遍过万斤。[2]
