西外村位于靖海镇西南部，与城区只隔一条公路。村子在城的西郊，因而称西门外，后简称西外。[1]

地名与历史[edit]

村子历史悠久，先人很早就在这里居住，当地有“未有靖海，先有西门外”的说法。明朝在此建靖海城，村子位于城西郊外，遂称西门外。[1]

土地改革后，这里先是一个自然村，之后并入其他村落。文化大革命期间设为西外大队，1983年改设乡政府，1986年改为管区，1999年撤区，改设西外村委会。[1]

人口与经济[edit]

博雅地名网记载，村中户数为246户，人口1160人，统计年份未注。劳动力415人，其中外出务工110人。耕地70亩，养殖面积130亩。[1]

生产上以甘薯、花生的种植和虾蟹养殖为主。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2023年5月，广东省爱卫会把「2022年广东省卫生村」的称号授予西外村。[1]
