南外村位于靖海城南门之外，简称南外，村民以渔业为主，是镇内的纯渔业村。[1]
地名与历史[edit]
村子坐落在城南门外，最初叫南门外，新中国成立后改称南外。[1]
相传明洪武初年，第一任千总奚福聚来靖海所守卫海疆，起初住在城内，传到第八代时才迁往城南门外定居。之后陈、王、卢、黄、夏、林、吴、苏、徐、李等姓也陆续迁来，形成村落。[1]
新中国成立初期，此地成立渔工协会，1954年组建渔业社，1959年设渔业大队。1983年改设乡政府，1987年改为渔业管理区，1999年改为村委会。[1]
人口与经济[edit]

村中有船只60多艘，主产鳗鱼、鱿鱼等。[1]
