华园村在仙庵镇西部，由华园、柯厝、塘边三个自然村组成，邻近仙宅、锡溪、宁寨等村。[1][2]村名原作“下园”，因住宅建在一块较低的园地上，后雅称“华园”。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

余德居自汕头月浦迁来，于明嘉靖年间（1522～1560）建村。[3]

1957年属仙庵乡，称华园村；1958年属东红公社，称华园大队。1983年改设华园乡，1986年复为华园村，1992年改为管理区，1999年起为村委会。[3]

人口与经济[edit]

全村面积约100公顷；耕地650亩，非耕地900亩。户数596，人口4098，未注年份。[2]百度百科称户籍人口亦为4098人。[1]

村民经济以种植业和外出务工为主。村子人多地少，既不近水也不靠山，产业发展一直较难。[4]2017年底，村里成立乡贤咨询委员会。黄旦茶是当地的生态农产品，近年有在外乡贤回乡开垦茶园种植。[4][1]

民俗[edit]

村里保留着潮汕传统民俗，如正月初七吃七样菜、景屏技艺、英歌舞、龙舞和打火醮消防仪式，饮茶习惯遵循工夫茶的传统。[1]
