湖西村位于棉湖镇东南部，东邻新湖村，西邻四乡村，南与普宁市接壤。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

1926年1月，村内成立农民协会，同年5月建立了村里第一个中共党支部。1928年3月，在黄氏房祖祠建立苏维埃政权，名为「湖西区苏维埃政府」。[3]

1958年至1983年间村称湖西大队。1984年大队撤销，改设湖西乡政府；1986年起为湖西村委会，1990年起改设湖西管理区办事处，1999年复称村委会，名称延续至今。[1]

地理环境[edit]

村内有一个工业区，建于1995年，占地280多亩，有工商户一百多家。[2]

经济[edit]

自2014年起，乡贤捐资、集资和政策性资金等渠道共筹得2000余万元，投入村容村貌、道路绿化与沟渠修缮。[2]村集体收入主要来自工业区土地和村内物业租金，全部用于村民分红。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

湖西祠堂即黄氏房祖祠，1978年列为揭西县第一批县级文物保护单位。[3]

文化[edit]

村先后获得「广东省革命老区」「广东省文明单位」「广东省卫生村」等称号，并被评为揭阳市先进基层党组织。[2]2020年，村被评为「广东省乡村治理示范村」。[4]
