棉湖镇是广东省揭阳市揭西县下辖的镇，位于县境东部，处在榕江南河中游东岸，东邻普宁市赤岗镇，南接普宁市大坝镇，西邻凤江镇，北与东园镇相接。镇人民政府设在迎宾路。[1][3]

棉湖古称道江，因云湖两岸多种木棉，改称棉湖，俗有「一庵埠，二棉湖」之说，是潮汕一带的老集镇。[1][2]

棉湖在1996年进入第二批省级历史文化名城的名单，镇内南门里街区则在2020年列入第二批广东历史文化街区。[6][7]镇内的郭氏大楼、兴道书院和打铁街古作坊群为省级文物保护单位。[7]电线电缆产业是镇里的主要产业，2002年列为广东省中心镇，2005年获广东省电线电缆专业镇称号。[2][9]

历史沿革[edit]

棉湖境区自古属揭阳县。宋代初期已有先民在此聚居，元代称「棉湖寨」，明洪武三年（1370年）设立巡检司。[2][5]揭西县棉湖镇人民政府的文章称镇始建于北宋太平兴国二年（977年）；维基百科作公元997年，与太平兴国二年的纪年不合，此处从前者。[6][2]

清嘉庆十二年（1807年）设揭阳县分县，以县丞驻此。民国时，此处设为揭阳县的第三区署，下辖13个乡。[2][5]

1949年11月曾设棉湖市，次年5月又改回镇制。1958年合并入棉湖公社，1961年分出凤江、东园、塔头、甲浦四个公社后，棉湖独立成社。1965年10月起属揭西县管辖。[5]

1972年和1975年，先后有东园公社的5个生产大队与普宁县的3个生产大队划入棉湖公社，1983年起复称棉湖镇。[2][5]

1925年东征期间，东征军在棉湖击败陈炯明部，史称棉湖战役。东征棉湖战役的指挥部设在兴道书院内。[16][11][12]

镇域面积，百度百科作30.38平方千米；博雅地名网所载为33平方千米，未注年份。[1][4]镇区中心有云湖，湖边建有云湖公园，园内湖中有一座明清时期的贝灰古桥。[7]

镇内电线电缆行业较为突出。据2025年8月的报道，全镇登记注册的电线电缆链条企业有1358家；2024年电线电缆行业销售额为27.68亿元，实现税收5377.13万元。[9]

镇内有省级非物质文化遗产「镖旗锣鼓巡演」和「方言灯谜」两项，市级非物质文化遗产厚埔英歌一项。[7]2024年3月，刘厝寨金狮举行省市县三级非遗揭牌仪式。[19]

名胜古迹[edit]

南门里街区位于镇区中心，是镇内古建筑群集中的老街区，2020年列入第二批广东历史文化街区。[7]

郭氏大楼又称郭氏大夫第，是潮商郭来的府第。工程自清雍正十一年（1733年）起，到乾隆十一年（1746年）方告完工。大楼的「驷马拖车、百鸟朝凤」格局为当地所称，2010年由广东省将其公布为省文物保护单位。[13][17][7]

兴道书院为清代书院，建成年份有两说：揭西县棉湖镇人民政府称建于清同治六年（1867年），百度百科作同治十一年（1872年）。书院内的三乐堂是东征军棉湖战役指挥部旧址，2019年列为广东省文物保护单位。[7][12][18]

永昌古庙是一组庙宇，包括玄天古庙、云湖庵与云境庵，庵内保存清代石浮雕和木雕藻井，清光绪九年（1883年）重修。该庙为揭西县文物保护单位。[14]

洪氏爱祖祠位于方围社区，建于1922年，2022年7月被列入第十批广东省文物保护单位名单。[15]

打铁街古作坊群为省级文物保护单位。[7]

东征棉湖战役旧址位于崩山、大公山一带，列为一般不可移动文物。[11]
