1955年，潭新村与月新村合称潭新初级社。[1] 1999年起改称潭新村委会，至今未变。[1]

潭新村于2023年5月获广东省爱卫会授予「2022年广东省卫生村」称号。[1] 2019年9月，潭新村列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。[1]
