赤步村位于桂岭镇西南部，属半山区，周边与霖磐镇的联东村接壤。[1][2]

村里以二、三产业为主。工农总产值2680万元（年份未注），2009年人均收入4675元。近年村里投资近200万元建设基础设施，修成街生大道，各社区道路完成水泥化，主要路段装上了路灯。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

村寨在元代延佑年间已经建成。解放后，它先隶属揭阳磐西区联北乡，1958年编入磐西公社，称赤步大队。1983年改设为桂岭区赤步乡，三年后才设村委会。[2]

赤步村在2019年9月进入2018年「广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」名单；2023年4月，村子又出现在「2022年广东省乡村治理示范村创建单位」的公布名单中。[1]
