玉湖镇位于广东省揭阳市揭东区西北部，北与梅州市丰顺县交界，处于榕江支流北河上游两岸，距城区25.50千米。镇境东西两翼多山，中部较为平坦，是一个以山区农业为主的镇。[1][2]

玉湖古时叫“产湖”，民国年间又称“山湖”。改名的缘由有两种说法：一说是1950年因乡政府所在的玉联村设有玉湖圩和玉湖古庙而定名，另一说是因镇境四周山地环绕、中间成盆地而得名。[2][3]

镇内在1927年发生过南昌起义部队与国民党军队的汾水战役，汾水村是主战场之一，如今设有纪念公园。玉湖又是揭阳市重点侨乡，海外华侨分布于二十多个国家和地区。[1][4][6]

博雅地名网所载镇域面积为134.5平方千米，百度百科则作135平方千米。全镇山地约十万亩，耕地约四万亩，山地以浅山为主，坡度较缓。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

清代时此地已归揭阳县蓝田都管辖；1914年（民国三年）起，玉湖与新亨并列揭阳县第四区，1949年又划入新亨区。1952年自新亨区析出，另设玉湖区；1958年并入新亨公社，1961年析出，改称玉湖公社；1983年10月恢复玉湖区的名称，1987年改为玉湖镇。[2]

1927年秋，起义军与国民党军在汾水村一带交锋，百度百科将这场战役称为汤坑战役，又称汾水战役，交战日期为9月28日至30日。[4]1998年前后，镇政府在竹竿山上修起烈士纪念碑，周边另有陵园和纪念馆。[3][6]

在2023年的统计中，固定资产投资为4.35亿元，规上工业产值为4.31亿元，限上商品销售额为11亿元。[5]

特色农产品以吴厝淮山、坪上绿茶和东寮芋头最为知名，吴厝村、坪上村、东寮村分别是这三样产品的主要产区。镇政府把特色农业的重心放在炒茶与东寮芋头两项上，并推动揭东玉湖炒茶地理标志的申报。[2][5][7]

玉湖镇先后于2020年、2021年和2022年被阿里研究院列入淘宝镇名单，2024年3月被命名为「2023年广东省卫生乡镇」。[3]

人口与侨乡[edit]

第七次全国人口普查结果显示，玉湖镇人口为7.71万人，在揭东区各街道乡镇中排第7位。[3]百度百科所载数字为2019年末总人口11.7万人、2.7万户，年份与口径都与前者不同，两者并列于此。[1]

玉湖是揭阳市重点侨乡之一。截至2010年，镇内海外华侨有85497人，散居于22个国家和地区，约八成在东南亚，泰国最多；港澳台同胞有12069人。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

汾水战役纪念公园位于汾水村与玉联村交界的竹竿山上，始建于1998年11月，占地约2.5万平方米，园内有烈士纪念碑、烈士陵园、英烈门、纪念亭和纪念馆。[6]2003年6月，揭阳市委、市政府将它定为爱国主义教育基地；2002年12月，广东省人民政府认定其为省级重点烈士纪念建筑物保护单位。[2]

新寮村的古村落始建于明万历六年（1578年），依山而建，保存着潮客融合风格的古民居群。村中的黄旭华旧居（崇德堂）是“共和国勋章”获得者黄旭华的旧居，设有成就展厅。[6]参见新寮村。

汾水村内的红色美丽乡村提质升级项目已完工验收，镇里并推进汾水红色教育基地建设，两者都与汾水村的战役遗址相连。[5]
