磐东街道是广东省揭阳市揭东区的一个街道，位于揭东区西部，辖区面积19.8平方千米。它原是揭阳县的磐东镇，2002年撤镇设街道，2012年由榕城区划归揭东区。[1][2][4]
街道以五金不锈钢加工和玉器加工为两大特色产业，当地素以「金玉」闻名。揭阳玉文化产业的源头即在街道内的阳美村。[2][3][6]
历史沿革[edit]
清代此地属揭阳县崇义乡磐溪都，因居磐溪都的东部而得名磐东。1949年冬，揭阳县把磐溪分设为磐西区和磐东区。1958年磐东区改称磐东公社，1975年1月，松山、棉洋等14个大队析出，另立月城公社。1983年复称磐东区，1986年撤区设磐东镇。[3][4]
1991年12月起，磐东属揭阳市榕城区管辖。2002年撤镇建街道，隶属关系不变。2012年揭东县撤销、揭东区设立，磐东街道由榕城区划归揭东区管理。[4][5]
地理环境[edit]
街道北面以榕江为界，与锡场镇隔江相望；南侧临榕江南河。环市北路、环市西路和西马路穿过辖区，交通便利。[1][2]
人口[edit]
第七次全国人口普查结果显示，磐东街道人口为8.59万人，在揭东区各街道乡镇中居第5位。[2]
百度百科载，截至2011年末，街道辖区总人口为70637人。[1]
经济[edit]
街道的主要产业是五金不锈钢与玉器的加工、销售。2006年，全镇工业产值达到37.06亿元，其中增长最猛的是五金制造经销与玉器加工贸易。[3]
百度百科载，2011年街道地区生产总值为61.2亿元，比上年增长9.48%；农民人均纯收入6644元，比上年增长11.2%。[1]

玉器是街道最具代表性的产业。新华网报道称，揭阳本地并不出产玉石，玉器产业的源头却在阳美村；2008年，「玉雕（阳美翡翠玉雕）」进入国家级非遗名录，属第二批。[6]
荣誉方面，百度百科称，2005年4月街道被亚洲珠宝联合会授予「亚洲玉都」称号，2006年1月被中国轻工业联合会授予「中国玉都」称号。新华网则写作2006年揭阳市获中国轻工业联合会授予「中国玉都」。[1][6]
名胜古迹[edit]
乔东大夫第与兰香楼位于乔东村一带。林毓瑞（1848年生、1926年卒）是印尼坤甸的侨领，这组宅院由他出资兴建。建筑朝向东方，两侧宽度分别为80.3米与59米，总占地6778平方米。博雅地名网称其为广东省文物保护单位。[7]
