梅云街道位于揭阳市区西南部，北临榕江南河，南依紫峰山，是揭阳的侨乡之一，省道236线自境内穿过。[1][4]街道由梅云乡、梅云公社、梅云镇逐步演变而来，2003年12月改设为街道。[3]境内五金不锈钢制品业颇具规模，紫峰寺、明宗岩等名胜位于山间，彭园以园林著称。[2][5][6]
历史沿革[edit]
宋至清代，梅溪是境内的分界，溪东归磐溪都，溪西归官溪都，皆隶属揭阳县。[3]1950年1月划入安乐区，1956年设梅云、五屿二乡，次年两乡合为梅云乡。[3]1958年初，梅云乡与篮兜乡组成安乐乡，当年9月再改为公社；1961年4月，此公社一分为二，分出仙桥公社与梅云公社。[3]
1983年改设梅云区公所，1986年11月设为梅云镇，1991年12月起归榕城区管辖，2003年12月再改为街道。[2][3]
地理环境[edit]
街道地处榕江平原，境内溪河纵横，土壤肥沃，民间素有「鱼米之乡」之称。[2]紫峰山在南，榕江南河在北，省道236线、吉荣路、紫云路等干道贯通境内。[2]
人口民族[edit]
第七次全国人口普查（2021年6月）显示，梅云街道人口为7.22万人，居榕城区各街道乡镇第3位。[1]截至2021年11月的人口，百度百科另载为66433人。[4]
经济[edit]
街道被确定为广东省五金不锈钢专业镇。[2]2010年，规模上工业产值86.58亿元，同比增长74.7%，工商税收收入4510.3万元，固定资产投资7.573亿元。[2]2011年上半年，规模上工业产值为54.49亿元，同比增长61%。[2]
当时街道有五金不锈钢制品企业98家，其中规模以上32家，年产值39.45亿元，约占全部工业产值的42.89%（博雅地名网，年份未注）。[2]2011年农民人均纯收入为6273元。[4]
文化[edit]
彭园被称为「粤东第一私家古园林」，园中有水榭楼台。[2]紫峰春晓是揭阳古八景之一。[2]
紫峰寺原名紫峰庵，据百度百科建于元代，至正十一年（1351年）为其始建之年，寺属临济宗，1988年重建，1990年修整。[5]明宗岩位于紫峰山南面，最初由明皇室宗亲朱洁子携女朱丽儿隐居时营建，始于明末。[6]
街道曾获「全国群众体育先进单位」「平安街道」等称号（年份未注）。[2]
