1992年，下义居委会成立。此前，这里1983年设下义村委会，隶属榕城镇，20世纪60年代曾分出下义大队；1953年时属渔湖区。[1]
经济[edit]
博雅地名网载，2008年社区生产总值为47490万元，居民人均年收入6139元。进贤门大道、东湖南路穿过辖区，望江北路亦在其中。望江北路商贸街以餐饮、物流和汽配维修为主；榕城建材综合市场兼营农贸与小商品。[1]
