地理环境[edit]
全岛面积2.2平方公里，海岸线全长6.1公里。山地多集中在西澳山一带，其最高处海拔96.8米；岛的中段地势较为平缓，其余多为丘陵。[2] 岛名的由来与其位于柘林西南、岛岸多湾的地形有关。[2] 全村下设新乡、旧乡、花园三处自然村。[2]
岛屿周边海域生长着红树林，每年清明前后鹭群聚集最多。黄嘴白鹭县级自然保护区于2025年设立，范围为561.01公顷。[2]
历史沿革[edit]
1999年重新设立西澳村委会之前，该村自1990年起称西澳管理区，1986年为村委会，1983年复称乡，1958年设大队，1951年则为西澳乡。[1]
文化[edit]
龟塔、蛇塔等导航遗迹保存在岛上，景点有古树公园与白鹭天堂广场。2024年，西澳岛被评定为「国家3A级旅游景区」。[2]
经济[edit]
村民以渔业和近海捕捞为生，所产有石斑、对虾等。[2] 2026年1月，西澳村获评「广东省第二批“百千万工程”典型村」称号。[1]
