村子地处花岗岩地貌之中，留有石屋、石板路等砌石遗迹 [3]。

历史沿革[edit]

1951年此地属西石乡；1958年成为西石大队的一部分；1974年由西石大队分出，独立为顶厝大队；1983年顶厝与新楼、西石三地合并成西石乡；1986年组建村委会，1990年为顶厝管理区，1999年村委会重新设立 [1][2]。

本村的刺竹坑红军洞、牛头契根据地等遗迹，据百度百科，记载了1927年毛泽覃率队宿营的历史 [3]。

村里以茶产业为主导，据百度百科，培育茶园2800亩，年产值超过5000万元，采用「茶农+合作社+公司」的模式带动发展 [3]。2020年8月，顶厝村列入首批广东省「一村一品、一镇一业」专业村名单，产品为茶叶 [1]。
