独树村是潮安区江东镇下辖的行政村，地处江东洲渚的中部偏西，西面濒临韩江，北面连着村头村，南面到上庄村。村名源于村中一株大樟树，村民以黄姓为主，据称开村于南宋庆元年间（1195年至1200年）。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网，宋代尚书黄渊之子东萌公曾随舅父廖槎溪到潮州任职，遂在此筑馆定居。馆旁有一株大樟树，东萌公便称此馆为“独树”，村名由此而来。旧时“独树”还是独树、上庄、下庄、何上等村的统称。[2]

村子现包括独树、牙美两个自然村。1958年，村以主村名设立独树大队；1999年改为村民委员会，此名沿用至今。[1]

地理环境[edit]

村域约3.3平方公里，耕地约1200亩，多为沙质土。地势自西北向东南略倾斜。据博雅地名网，村子离潮州城东南约15公里，离潮安县城庵埠约14.4公里。[2]

人口民族[edit]

据博雅地名网，2005年12月全村1254户、5588人，这一人数约为1950年人口的2.4倍（当年2332人）。迁往外地的后裔据说已逾万人，其中迁往饶平潘段的一支，已传到第29代，共3180人。[2]

经济[edit]

村子是有名的侨乡，新加坡、马来西亚、印尼、泰国、越南、澳洲、加拿大和美国都有村中的侨亲，港澳台也有人旅居。自1990年起，村内外乡亲合计捐款430万元，用于公益事业。[2]

文化[edit]

明清时期村中就有私塾，先后建成10余座书斋，现存6座。1900年前后，几间私塾并为“乔木学堂”，1912年定名乔木学校，1952年起转为公办。1996年，学校另建新楼，用地25亩，楼面积约3680平方米，投入资金350万元。2000年8月，村中又投资39万元建成幼儿园。截至2005年12月，在校学生有一千二百余人。[2]

据博雅地名网，截至2000年12月，村中历届大学毕业生共138人；其中有8人获硕士或博士学位，14人为教授或高级技术人员。[2]

1993年，潮州市人民政府将独树认定为革命老区。村民黄俊士（黄霭）于20世纪30年代参加革命工作，1937年参与成立汕头青年救亡同志会。[2]

2020年12月，广东省爱卫会授予独树村「2020年广东省卫生村」荣誉称号。[1]
