元巷村是潮安区江东镇下辖的行政村，位于镇域北部，北面与柚园村相接，南面连着村头村，东边是亭头村，西边依靠葛外村。村民以张姓为主，村名由旧称银巷、颜巷演变而来。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

清光绪年间，村子称银巷、颜巷。潮州方言中“银”“颜”与“元”读音相近，村名遂演化为元巷。[1][2]

据博雅地名网，明洪武十九年（1386年），张松山、张松石兄弟自福建莆田县石狮巷迁来创村。村中原有郭、翁、张三姓，后逐渐统一为张姓。张氏长房、三房、四房并存，其中三房人口最多，二房则于清代迁居梅县一带。[1]

1958年，村以村名设立元巷大队；1965年该队并入亭头大队，1974年再度分出、恢复原名；1999年改为元巷村民委员会，此名沿用至今。[1]

地理环境[edit]

村子位于江东北部，耕地300多亩，土质南北有别：堤外原为多溪生涂的粘质土，堤内多属沙质土，疏松，适宜种植花生、甘蔗、大豆、香蕉和竹笋等。[2]

经济[edit]

改革开放后，村民推行家庭联产承包，富余劳力增多，村里转而发展工业。1983年，元巷村办起全镇第一家服装厂，从来料加工起步，后与客户签订购销合同，职工超过两百人，产品进入国际市场。此后陆续有10多家私人服装厂开办，从业人员740人。[2]

2005年，全村人均收入4353元。村中服装、塑料、机绣、粮食加工等厂场遍布，村中小商店24间。[2]

文化[edit]

元巷村重视教育，明清科举时期已设私塾和书斋，出过举人、进士。据博雅地名网，清嘉庆十三年（1808年）张中阳中进士。清末民初，村中张氏宗祠内办起肇华私塾，后改称肇华小学，新中国成立后由国家接办，改名元巷小学。1992年，侨亲张宝贤自印尼回乡，出资70余万元，在村南重建肇华学校，新校占地九亩，建筑面积一千五百多平方米。[2]

张氏宗祠在村中，建于清代，2012年公布为潮州市文物保护单位。[1]

2000年，村民营企业家及海内外乡亲投资198万元兴建水厂，同年2月动工、8月竣工，日供水三百吨。2003年，村筹资建成新型无害化公厕5座；2005年，铺设水泥村道1300米。[2]

解放前，村民曾为游击队送情报、征集粮食。1992年，元巷村经县、市政府上报，获上级批准列为革命老区。[2]

2019年9月，元巷村列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」名单。[1]
