上水头村是潮安区江东镇下辖的行政村，位于镇域北端，东、西、北三面临韩江，南邻下水头村。村名经历了从“江头”到“水头”的改称，后因上游、下游之分，与下水头村并称。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
村子所在的江东北端，昔日韩江东西两条支流在此会合，村名先叫“江头”，清末改称“水头”。此后，原来的水头自然村按上游、下游分为上水头与下水头两村。[1] 据博雅地名网，明万历年间（万历元年即公元1573年），蔡松轩、蔡兰轩兄弟自澄海渔洲迁来创村；同一网站的下水头村条目则把蔡兰轩来村的时间定在明隆庆年间（隆庆元年即公元1567年），两说的年份并不一致。[1][3]
1958年公社化时，村属水头大队；1977年以村名改称“上水头大队”；1999年改为上水头村民委员会，此名沿用至今。[1]
人口民族[edit]
博雅地名网所载全村230户、1042人，其中男510人、女532人，该网站未注明统计年份。村中早先另有郑、游二姓，解放初期迁离。[1]
经济[edit]
村子三面临溪，耕地狭窄，土质为韩江冲积的沙质土，适宜种植麻竹、甘蔗、花生和蔬菜。1988年时村中尚有耕地237亩。2002年潮州供水枢纽工程落址本村，征去了大批土地；据村里上报的材料，目前可用土地已不足40亩。[2]
文化[edit]
2019年9月，上水头村列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」名单。2020年12月，广东省爱卫会授予上水头村「2020年广东省卫生村」荣誉称号。[1]
