历史沿革[edit]
据村情所载，村中孙氏的始祖在南宋初年（公元1128—1142年）从福建莆田月潭村迁来定居，取名西林。后因在村南另立新村，才有了上、下西林之分。[2]
建国前，村子先后归东莆区、潮安第七区、第十区、金石区等管辖。1961年后划入沙溪公社，那时叫上西林大队。1983年成为上西林乡；到1987年，才归入沙溪镇，改名上西林村。[1][2]
地理与经济[edit]
村庄地势平坦，灌溉自流，金石至贾里的交通要道从村中穿过。村民多务农，以种植业为生，种的主要是生柑与柑苗。耕地924亩，山地470亩；住756户，人口4040人。[2]
育柑苗的做法始于十六世纪后期，迄今已四百余年。潮州柑苗多产于此，汕头地区育柑苗之技便是由此处兴起。1958年，此处被确定为汕头地区重点苗圃；截至1985年，村中种有生柑660亩。[2]
名胜古迹[edit]
刚克公祠位于上西林村，建于1928年，是「广东工农革命军独立第二团」的驻地，属近现代重要史迹及代表性建筑。它于2020年4月16日列入第四批潮州市文物保护单位名单。[3][4]
荣誉[edit]
2019年9月，上西林村列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」名单。2020年9月、2021年10月和2022年10月，村子先后列入「2020年淘宝村」「2021年淘宝村」「2022年淘宝村」名单。[1]
