村名与沿革[edit]
湖美始祖敦斋公于宋末自莆田迁来。村南有一座银马湖，先祖在湖的尾端定居建村，称湖尾；因写字时常把“尾”写作“美”，遂成湖美。下尾又称厦美，郑、许两姓先后迁入。卢畔的卢氏始祖学士公也自莆田迁来，以姓氏为村名。[1][2]
工艺[edit]
村人擅长工艺，以湖美花头著称。早年以纸花起家，后以方龙缎、文华绸为材料，做成花鸟走兽图样，另有牡丹花、纱灯与盆景，产品曾远销东南亚及美国。游神赛会用的人物戏屏、纱灯和花灯也是传统工艺品。[2]
荣誉[edit]
2020年9月，湖美村列入「2020年淘宝村」名单。2021年10月，湖美村列入「2021年淘宝村」名单。2021年12月，广东省爱卫会授予湖美村「2021年广东省卫生村」称号。2022年10月，湖美村列入「2022年淘宝村」名单。[1]
