新西坑村是登塘镇下辖的行政村，位于旧田东乡的东南端，距原乡政府约2.5公里。村子南边与白茫洲、枫树员相邻，西边接横洋村。[1][2][3]
村子原称西坑村。清康熙年间，张氏首先迁来，此后陈、黎两姓相继定居。1931年，因与潮安县磷溪镇的西坑村同名，改用现名。[1][2][3]
历史沿革[edit]
土地革命时期，村中设有红十一军的秘密交通站。抗战期间，国民革命军潮汕警备部队的独九旅在村内深垭一带挖筑过防御战壕。[3]
1958年，村子与横洋村合为一个生产大队；1976年单独设西坑大队，1981年改称新西坑大队；1999年改制为村委会。[1][3]
人口与经济[edit]
全村辖上西一、上西二两个自然村，2006年12月共202户1099人。耕地358亩，山地10259亩。[2]
20世纪四五十年代，村内柿子和菠萝产量较多。1983年以后，村里调整生产布局，发展香蕉、菠萝、柑桔、青梅等水果。[2]
文化[edit]
2019年9月，新西坑村列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单；2020年12月，村子获得「2020年广东省卫生村」称号。[1][3]
