地名由来[edit]
相传韩江北堤决口时，洪水漫到的最末端即是此地，故村名取作水尾。潮语中“尾”与“美”音近，遂雅称水美。村中多李姓，因而称水美李[1][2]。
据《水美村史》，清代咸丰年间（1851至1860年），李氏先祖从饶平迁来，当时村中已有林、蔡等姓[2]。
人口与产业[edit]
博雅地名网载村中人口2078人，未注统计年份[1]。
村内耕地880亩，主产水稻、菠萝、橄榄与生柑，塘鱼养殖也很发达。其中「水美菠萝」以肉质细嫩、味道清甜闻名。约两成劳力从事二、三产业；集体与个体企业只有2家，以凉果加工为主[2]。1980年，村中建成一座装机100千瓦的小水电站[2]。
百度百科称，村中留有清代三位将军——李逢春、李从龙与李树勋——的文化遗产。解放战争时期，村里还有“水美山后武工队”的活动史迹[3]。
荣誉[edit]
2019年9月，该村入选「2018年广东省“民主法治示范村（社区）”创建单位」名单[1]。2020年8月，首批「广东省“一村一品、一镇一业”专业村」名单由广东省农业农村厅公布，水美李村以沉香列入其中[1]。
历史沿革[edit]
1958年，此地以村名设「水美大队」；1981年因与彩塘公社的水美大队重名，改为「水美李大队」；1999年改为「水美李村民委员会」，此名沿用至今[1][3]。
