社区处在小榄新城区的东南方，距镇政府约7公里，北面与绩东一社区毗连，东南与盛丰社区相邻，东侧以泗沥涌为界，与绩西社区隔水相望。辖区形状像蚂蝗，面积4.43平方公里，户籍人口约7千，另有两万余流动人口。下设星火、怡丰、泰丰三个小区。[1]
社区名称与绩西相同，都出自一段民间传说：有妇人靠织麻为生，后在此置业。居委会设在绩东二，因而取名。2026年1月，社区获评「广东省第二批百千万工程典型村」；2022年11月，又被认定为「2022年度第二批中山市绿色社区」。[1]
