竹源社区在小榄镇北部，东边紧邻新市社区，南面与永宁社区接壤，西侧连着西区社区，北侧与北区社区相连。全区面积约2.59平方公里，居民中户籍人口有9千余，另有流动人口约1.4万。[1]
社区的名字是1962年合并时取的：当时竹桥与财源两个大队合为一个，各取一字成名。2021年12月，社区获评「2021年度中山市绿色社区」；2022年1月，广东省乡村振兴局把它列为「2021年广东省乡村治理示范村」的创建单位。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
1957年，此地划入永宁大乡。1961年，西区生产营被拆分为竹桥、财源、中心、石龙四个大队，归永宁公社。1962年，竹桥与财源合并设竹源大队，先属永宁公社，后改属小榄公社。[1]
地理环境[edit]
社区的主要河道有沉槎涌、葵树庙涌、罗巷涌、财湾大涌，还有竹源大涌，平均宽约10米，全长约6公里。社区里的山丘榄碇冈，也称石冈。社区下设五个居民小区，分别以竹桥、财源、葵树、徐源和安乐为名。[1]
