东区社区处于小榄镇中心地带，面积约3.43平方公里。东侧以横海涌为界，与绩东一、绩西两社区相邻；南边是九洲基社区，西侧隔东堤涌与新市社区相望，北面连着沙口社区。北部的龙山海拔40米左右，如今已建成龙山公园。[1]

社区常住人口约4万，海外、港澳台的侨胞与同胞超过2000人，因此被定为广东侨界人文社区示范点。2021年12月，社区获评「2021年度中山市绿色社区」，2026年1月又被评为「广东省第二批百千万工程典型村」。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

社区名称源于它位于旧小榄镇区东面。此地曾于1950年建乡，之后几经更替，1976年恢复大队建制，归小榄公社管辖。[1]

过去社区内有18个自然村，现分作三个居民管理小组。[1]
