神湾镇隶属广东省中山市，辖区南端濒临磨刀门水道，隔着这条水道与珠海市斗门区遥遥相对，下辖1个社区和5个行政村。[1][4]博雅地名网载其面积为59.59平方千米，百度百科则载为60.93平方千米。[1][4]古时此地是天然避风港，起初叫船湾，船民认为有神明庇佑，于是改称神湾。[1]镇内以神湾菠萝闻名，镇也因此得到过农业部门的专业镇与示范村镇认定。[1][4]

南宋时此地属丰乐乡。明朝归谷字都，清末改隶谷镇，1912年民国建立后划入第五区。1952年至1955年间，此地先后隶属上五区、第二区和平岚区；神湾乡之名出现于1957年2月。1958年，它一度改为红星公社并入三乡大公社，次年复称神湾公社。1961年起归三乡区；1963年后一度划入深湾公社，1965年初神湾公社的名称得以恢复。1983年11月此地成为神湾区，直到1986年12月才称镇。[3]

2006年，全镇生产总值8.77亿元，工业总产值29.31亿元，农业总产值0.94亿元；这一年引进外资实际到位3389万美元，出口1.35亿美元。[2]同年，神湾港全年集装箱装卸量为12.5万个标准箱。[2]当时镇里种得最多的是菠萝，2006年共种了2572亩，收获2057吨。[2]据百度百科，2021年地区生产总值为26.7亿元，到2024年增至33.8亿元，比上年多11.6%。[4]

神湾侨史文化馆位于宥南村十二环，2023年1月13日投入使用，属神湾镇侨联管理，馆舍原为彭氏家族宗祠，建成已逾百年。据百度百科，中山各镇街中由镇一级开办的侨史馆，以它为最早。[7]

名胜古迹[edit]

神湾海港古村在海港村境内，由大排、芒涌、磨刀三处聚落组成，三者沿河涌或山麓呈线状排布。大排之名与当地多沙的说法有关；芒涌一带原是芒草丛生的丘陵，约在清道光年间有人聚居；磨刀则因地形似刀、位于磨刀门水道出海口而得名。[6]
