长洲社区位于西区街道西部，与石岐隔河相望，西邻沙溪镇溪角，境内北部有狮滘河横贯。社区的前身是长洲村，古称烟洲，南宋时属香山县仁厚乡，是一个四面临水的狭长小岛，因此得名长洲[1]。

地名由来[edit]

长洲古称烟洲，南宋时为香山县仁厚乡下的一个狭长小岛[1]。香山置县后，石岐山上燃起烟火为海船指路，隔海相望的小岛因此叫作烟洲，后来又因形状狭长改称长洲[2]。明嘉靖二十六年（1547年）的一幅香山县境图上，首次出现「长洲山」字样[2]。

历史沿革[edit]

1936年建立长洲乡。1951年11月，后山与东村从中分出，各自另设。1958年年底，后山重新并入，组成长洲大队。1963年后山再分设大队，1985年恢复长洲乡[1]。1988年1月改设长洲村委会，同年6月由郊区改属西区。博雅地名网概况页作2002年1月改称长洲社区居委会，社区页作2002年3月改设长洲居委会，两处日期不同[1][2]。

经济[edit]

博雅地名网概况页记，长洲在80年代前以农业为主，1981年起开办村办企业，1982年引进首家「三来一补」企业，1992年成立长洲实业集团有限公司，下属企业达21家[2]。

人口[edit]

博雅地名网概况页记，社区2008年辖12个居民小组，总人口13352人。其中外来人口有7187人，本地户籍则为6165人[2]。

文物与革命遗址[edit]

博雅地名网概况页列黄氏大宗祠、烟洲书院为市文物保护单位，并记录了中山县长洲乡支部活动旧址、一区游击训练班旧址与长洲战时服务团团部旧址等革命遗址[2]。黄氏大宗祠的建造年代与烟洲书院的详情，见西区街道条目。

荣誉[edit]

社区于2022年9月被认定为「2022年度第一批中山市绿色社区」[1]。博雅地名网概况页记，社区于2002年获评「广东省卫生村」。1992年，长洲被认定为抗日战争时期的革命老区；翌年1月，又被列为解放战争期间的游击根据地[2]。
