起湾社区是东区街道下辖的社区，2002年4月成立，辖区内保留有起湾村一个自然村。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

南宋咸淳年间（1265年至1274年），博士杨云巢自南雄珠玑巷迁居深湾（今板芙镇一带），后来又迁到此地立村，称牛起湾村，后简称起湾。[2][3]

1953年称起湾乡；1958年村中曾分设3个大队，1963年又合并为起湾村委会。1988年6月，起湾改属东区。[2][3]

2002年，起湾村与富湾居委会合在一起，成了起湾居民委员会。[2]

人口与区域[edit]

据博雅地名网，社区辖区面积为339.82公顷，有3000多户，共1万多人。[3]

据百度百科，社区常住人口为8315人。[1]

经济与居民[edit]

居民的收入主要来自做生意、自营或外出打工，也有靠房屋出租、股份分红和征地款的。[3]

起湾经联社是社区下辖的经济联合社。2000年以后，经联社村民逐步改为非农业户口。[3]

社区内有幼儿园5所、小学2所，另有卫生服务所，附近有母山公园和沙岗墟市场。[3]

荣誉[edit]

2017年5月，社区被认定为「第四批国家级充分就业社区」；2022年11月，被认定为「2022年度第二批中山市绿色社区」。[2]

社区所在的起湾村是杨子毅（1878年至1953年）的故乡。[3]
