2002年，松苑与竹苑两个居民委员会合并，设立竹苑居民委员会，此后这一名称沿用至今。[2][4]
社区名称来源于辖区内的竹苑路。[2]

据百度百科，社区区域面积为0.81平方千米；住户约3685户，居住人口为11196人。[1]
