下芦村位于莞城西北部，在中堂墟西南约3.5千米处，东面隔河与东向村相对，西面是马沥村。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
下芦村立村于清高宗乾隆初年（约1736年），吴、张、何、胡、杨五姓先祖在此定居，最初名「厦村」，后也写作「厦芦」。[1]
行政上，它1953年属新民乡，1958年归麻涌公社的厦芦大队，1983年为厦芦乡，1987年为厦芦管理区，1999年方改为下芦村委会。[1]
地理与人口[edit]
1959年发生特大洪水，灾后村民在东丫（土名）筑起大围。次年成立新民大队，包括下芦、马沥、四乡三村；1961年又分开，设立下芦大队。[1]
全村辖6个村民小组，2002年时面积1.2平方千米，外来人口1000多人，户籍人口1100多人。[1]
